Catfish and Mandala is Goucher’s 2010 Summer Reading Selection

Goucher College has adopted Catfish and Mandala: A Two-Wheeled Voyage Through the Landscape and Memory of Vietnam for their 2010 Summer Reading program.

All new students will receive a copy of the book along with a set of reflection questions about its content and themes. Those questions will guide small group discussions lead by faculty members during orientation.  In addition, students will hear author Andrew X. Pham speak and have the opportunity to ask him questions when he visits campus in the fall.

The common reading and book discussions are meant to spark discussion among new Goucher students and its staff and professors.  The summer reading program has been active for several years.  The college adopted John Pomfret’s Chinese Lessons: Five Classmates and the Story of the New China (in 2008 and The Outlaw Sea: A World of Freedom, Chaos, and Crime by William Langewiesche in 2005.
