SPARE PARTS is Miami University’s 2016 #CommonReading Book! (#FYE16)

Spare PartsMiami University in Ohio has selected Joshua Davis’s Spare Parts for their 2016 Summer Reading program!

All incoming first-year students will receive a copy of the book during their Summer Orientation in June, and will read the book before heading to campus at the end of August. Joshua Davis will be the featured speaker at Miami University’s Convocation ceremony on Friday, August 26. Convocation will be followed by breakout welcome sessions and discussion groups. In these discussion groups, students will engage in lively dialogue about Spare Parts‘s themes, and they will be encouraged to think about how these themes relate to their lives and to the world around them. Some of the themes that will be discussed include innovation, mentoring, collaboration, diversity, and inclusion.

This is the 35th year of Miami University’s Summer Reading program. The school uses this program to underline the following activities that they value most as a community:

  • Critical engagement with ideas
  • Close interaction among faculty, staff, and students
  • Reading, listening, reflecting, talking, and learning as characteristics of active, responsible citizenship.

Overall, this program is designed to unite the student body, and welcome new students into the Miami University community.
