With remote learning during the pandemic, the issue of connecting with students is more important than ever. Especially with learners at different levels. Writer and speaker Jonathan Mooney uses his own story as a neurodiverse kid – he was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD and did not learn to read until he was twelve – to show how neurodiverse students are often shamed and told that they are “not normal.” In this session, he offers the message that we should stop trying to fix people and start empowering them to succeed, and presents strategies for truly inclusive teaching.
